Early this year, I attended talk on ‘Foods of the New Year’ at Lan Su Chinese Garden in Portland. The talk was about the traditional customs and good luck food of the Chinese New Year and was presented by BeeBee Tan. She is a Malaysian-born Chinese who has lived in United States for more than 30 years. She is a poetry and fiction writer. In that event, one of the audiences (a mother with a small child about 4 years old), asked her where could she find ‘Yong Tau Foo’ and Hainanese Chinese Rice in Portland. This Caucasian mother has been living in Malaysia for about 2 years but now is back United State and miss these foods. Her family has just moved to Portland a few months earlier. BeeBee Tan told her that she would not be able to find these Malaysian foods in Portland.
I can't wait to fly thousand of miles back home to Malaysia to eat all these delicious Malaysian food. I already have a list of food that I want to eat when I am home.
